At the age of ten, 1983 it was, when Yo-el began collecting vinyl and making mashups of pop songs using the pause button of a tape recorder. They were musically interesting times, where the foundations of today’s electronic music were laid – and Yo-el jumped on the train of New beat, New wave, Chicago house, Acid house, … With the 90’s just around the corner, he got his first gigs and residencies in his hometown, Ghent. Not only with laser infused, tailor-made monster sound system mega-clubs, but also with underground warehouse techno- and house-parties, Belgium played a trendsetting role in the development of Europe’s electronic music scene. And Yo-el absorbed all these genres – hence his varied music collection, which people could enjoy on parties all over Ghent.
In 1995, experiencing music got Yo-el an exponential kick with the discovery of Goa-trance, driving him to set sail in a new direction. Bitten by the psychedelic bug, he played almost weekly, and founded “All Funghed Up”, throwing parties all over Belgium between 1996 and 2004. With the start of the new millennium, Goa-trance and psy-trance let go of the 90s “fin de siècle” character and Yo-el’s taste moved on into progressive psychedelic trance and progressive house. Onwards he was playing a pioneering role in the introduction of these genres in Belgium.
As music evolved, so did the dj – around 2005 Yo-el began forming a distinctive style of his own, fusing all kinds of electronic music by selecting from techno, progressive house, acid, acidcore and others. It was all about these tracks that one prefers to not stick a label on – it was about giving Yo-elness to crowds all over Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland, Goa, Dahab, Mexico…
These Yo-elness treatments are known to take you on a storytelling yet surprising journey, travelling through time and space and multiple genres or sub-genres with various emotions and soundscapes…
